New Training Tool for Ergon Companies

Recently, Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions, Inc., Ergon Terminaling, Inc., Ergon – Baton Rouge, Inc., Ergon – Knoxville, Inc. and Ergon – St. James, Inc., facilities have begun using a new tool to help identify, communicate and manage compliance to regulatory training requirements for OSHA, EPA, DOT, USCG and other internal training requirements.  Employees are mandated by law and regulation to complete training required by these agencies and doing so sometimes presents challenges.  The Ergon Systems and Performance Improvement Department, at the request of representatives for these organizations, facilitated the creation of the Ergon Multi-Site Facility Regulatory Training Needs Database with Melanie Petren from the Mirror Lake Business Support Center.  This tool was created to assist Ergon organizations identify what training is required for a given facility.  The database has links to training materials and training documentation forms.  It also standardizes the SAP Training and Events Management module abbreviations and descriptions used to document training.  This database is to be used in conjunction with the SAP Training and Events Management module for recording, tracking and reporting employee training.

The Ergon Multi-Site Facility Regulatory Training Needs Database is located on the Ergon intranet.  To access the database from the Ergon intranet, perform the following steps:

  • Click the Training tab from the options on the left side of the screen
  • Click the Training Needs Database link [See photo 1 below]

A new window should appear containing some facility drop down menu options.  Use the drop down menus to select the organization, site location and the category of employees. [See photo 2 below]

Once selected, the required training for the site will be displayed. [See photo 3 below]

The database also has the following features:

  • Sortable headers – When you click on a header, all rows within the table will be sorted in ascending or descending order
  • Hyperlinks for “Forms” and “Materials.”  When selecting these hyperlinks, the Business Event Attendance Form, customized with the SAP TEM abbreviation and descriptions, and training materials are available for use.  While new training materials are continually being created and added to this table, not every course may have training materials.
